Inventory Management

Custom inventory systems that track on-hand, allocated and in-transit stock from a transaction history, and feed available-to-sell quantities to stores and marketplaces.

Counting what is on the shelf is the easy number. The harder ones are what is still available to sell once open orders are allocated, what is in transit and when it lands, and what is sitting in the wrong location. When those are wrong, a business can oversell on a marketplace or reorder stock it already has.

We build inventory systems, and extend existing ones, around a transaction history: every receipt, transfer, allocation, shipment and adjustment is recorded with a reason and a user, and on-hand and available quantities are calculated from it. A disputed count can then be traced line by line, and a scheduled reconciliation can compare the system against a physical count or a supplier feed, whenever one is available, and list the differences instead of silently overwriting them.

Possible features include:

  • Reservations when an order is placed, released automatically if it is cancelled
  • Stock feeds to online stores and marketplaces with a safety buffer, to reduce the risk of overselling when a sync is delayed
  • Reorder points and aging reports that flag slow-moving stock for markdown
  • Lot, serial number or location tracking where the product requires it

For receiving, picking and bin locations inside the building, see Warehouse Management.
